A simple way to embrace mindfulness and how this will benefit you.We love to overcomplicate things, don't we. Like Mindfulness. It's a word that we hear all the time, and when that happens we can sometimes lose our own undesrtanding and connection to what it means for us. Just like anything we choose in our lives, when it feels right and true for us, then we start to naturally embrace it. In our own way. I've often asked people what mindfulness means to them, and they tell me they don't know. So, I want to share my own simple process of mindfulness, and how I bring this to my every day. I hope this will feel supportive and encouraging for you. Mindful living is a beautiful theme of wellbeing, and I have found that by living with mindfulness, this has brought greater ease to my mind, my body, and my heart. I feel more connected to myself and with others, too.
Mindfulness can bring meaning to all areas of our lives, as I feel it creates more care, consideration, and compassion, to ourselves, and to everything around us. My simple process is this: - Pause Notice Awareness Be Pause - Take a moment to stop whatever you're doing. Simply pause for moment. Take a breath. Notice - Notice what you're doing, who you're with, where you are. Look around you. Look at the person you're with. Draw your attention to what you're doing and take notice of what's right in front of you. Nothing around you mattters, just notice what's right there, right now. Take a breath as you notice yourself in that moment. Notice how you feel in that moment. Draw your attention to yourself and whatever it is, wherever you find yourself, whoever you're with. Let the rest go. Other things around you aren't important, future thoughts don't matter, everything else can simply wait. Just notice - where you are, how you are, who you are, right now. Awareness - Bring awareness to yourself in the moment, right now. Draw awareness to your body. Whether you're sitting, standing, walking - just feel into your body and bring awareness to yourself. If you're with someone, allow your awareness to be just with that person, feel into the energy of being with that person, sitting alongside you, or opposite you, or even over the phone. Bring awareness to where you are, to who you're with, and focus on that moment, right now. Bring awareness to the words being said. Or if you're doing something alone, simply allow yourself to become present with where you are and what you're doing. Just focus on that. Nothing else is important , right now. Let the rest go. It can wait. Be - Simply BE, in this present moment, whatever it is, however it is, right now. When other distractions come into your mind, gently draw yourself back through this process - pause, notice, awareness in this present moment, and BE with whoever you're with, whatever you're doing and wherever you are. This moment, is now. This where you are, right now. You are being, in the moment, with all of yourself, right now. This is mindfulness. A very simplified 'Katie version' of what mindfulness means to me, and the way I have learnt to practice and bring mindfulness to my every day. Mindfulness benefits us in so many ways. Mindfulness also benefits our relationships with others. Mindfulness deepens the quality of our interactions and relationships. When we practice mindfulness with someone, they feel it too. We're not distracted by outside noise, or doing a number of things at once. We're simply noticing and paying attention, and just being in that present moment, with our full awareness and all of our being. We might also call this intentional presence. We are fully with someone, in that moment. Our attention is only with how we are and who we're with, right now. It deepens our listening, and the way we listen to others - not just to words that are said, but also to what's not said. Mindfulness also deepens our listening to ourselves. Mindfulness allows us to let go of judgement and to just be with what is, within ourselves and with others, with a deep presence and resonance to every moment, and to an acceptance of simply being with what is. When we let go of judgement, we create space for compassion. Mindfulness brings calm and ease into our hearts, our bodies, and our everyday life. If we can practice mindfulness with certain things through out the day, it can start to become natural and can find ourselves easily doing this more, over time. We can do this in all our daily moments - at work, with others, just with ourselves, and at home. Many people say, as I find myself, that mindful living brings more clarity, and more productivity as well. We focus on what matters in any given moment. Mindfulness can also increase our creativity and this brings more meaning and also, more joy. No rush, no pressure, no expectation. Simply pausing, noticing, bringing our awareness to the present moment, and being with what is. We can also practice mindfulness meditation too, and I'll write another journal piece on this, to share. Mindfulness is to live in a mindful way. There are many beautiful changes and benefits mindfulness brings to our lives and our wellbeing. If you'd like to continue a conversation about this, and how you can practice mindfulness in your every day, I'd love to support you further. I know the changes this can bring. Please send me an email and we can make a time to talk. I'll also be writing other journal pieces to share, around mindfulness in specific areas of our life, and I hope you'll enjoy reading these too. Topics such as: Mindfulness and chronic pain, Mindfulness and digestion, Mindfulness through challenging times, and Mindfulness with difficult conversations (something I know many of us can benefit from). Mindfulness can be a simple and natural process. Mindful living can bring beautiful changes to our every day. With love, x Katie PS.
