We all have times of uncertainty in our lives. You may be feeling it right now in some way.
Transitions in life can bring up a lot of feelings and emotions. Whatever it may be - any changes to our life circumstances can be big transitions in many ways.
It's necessary and supportive for ourselves to deeply acknowledge this.
It might be changes to work, changes within family life, changes and challenges with health, changes with finances and money, changes in relationships, and even loss of those we love. Feelings and emotions can be ever present and overwhelming. And often in these times, we may even be the supporter of others, and perhaps neglect or find less time to support ourselves.
It's this space for connection to ourselves and within ourselves which can be the most supportive gift of self compassion and self love. It's in this space of connection that we can really know and understand this gentle power and trust we have within ourselves.
When there's uncertainty, it may be hard to give names to some of the things we're feeling, to really know what our emotions mean and even how to express them, or to be with them. We just know that we feel it all so strongly. In our hearts, in our bodies, and our thoughts and emotions might all switched on like a bright flickering neon light in our mind. Often it's not until we stop, take a pause amongst everything that might be going on around us, we take a breath - or someone asks us a question - that we suddenly realise how much we're holding onto and it might all come pouring out.
If you're feeling this way right now, let it pour out. Let it all flow as it needs to. Let it be your self expression. Let it be your release of whatever you need to, however you need to, for however long you need to. Let your feelings and emotions speak to you in a way your self is asking of you.
And this beautiful questions I often ask - What can I do to support myself right now?
Take a pause and a breath, and go to that space of connection within yourself and reflect on what it is that you most need, right now.
Trusting in ourselves, and connecting within ourselves, can be difficult through uncertainty and times of change and transition. When everything feels too hard, or too much, or perhaps you're the one holding others up right now, and it's difficult to even find space for yourself.
And if you are going through uncertainty yourself, it can feel lonely, or easy to lose ones self amongst it all, and to just not know who to turn to perhaps, or how to even begin to listen to yourself.
This beautiful question can draw us back to this space of trust within ourselves - What can I do to support myself, right now?
I think it often starts with just letting it all out. Letting the tears flow. Letting ourselves release what we need to for as long as we need to. All our feelings and emotions are valid and they ask for our honest and loving acknowledgement.
When we take a pause and stop, we can create this space to acknowledge what it is that's really going on around us, or within us, and we can honour everything that comes up, listen to ourselves, and hold ourselves in all the ways we need with self compassion and love. This is so deeply necessary.
It might help to talk things out. Even if it's just to one trusted person. Someone who will sit with us, listen, and be with us, within it all. Not fixing. Not making things better. Not making suggestions or trying to find a solution for now. Just to connect with us, and acknowledge the truth of what it is we are feeling and experiencing, in this moment, right now.
Self expression is a beautiful way to let things out, and to connect to ourselves. In whatever way that feels and means for us. It might be something creative like writing, journalling, painting, singing, dancing or even cooking. Sometimes we may not have the words to say what we need to, but we just crave a way to release it all and to let it out. Creativity is beautiful for this, and we all have creativity within us. We are all unique creative beings. Finding what supports us to connect to ourselves, can be so beautifully empowering and healing.
For me, I have books of journals, and I have manuscripts filled with songs I've written. And if I find myself in a time of uncertainty now, when feelings and emotions are high, and perhaps I can't voice them, or I may not even know how to put them down on a page. Instead, I sit at my piano and I play and I let my fingers glide over the notes and they take me to place within myself that is more healing to me than anything.
That place of connection to ourselves within, is where courage, love, hope and trust resides. It's a space within ourselves where we can simply be who we are, and how we are, and acknowledge it all.
You may be someone who loves nature and connection to self comes through sitting outside, surrounded by trees, or by water. I know I've often found comfort and solace by walking on the beach, or just sitting overlooking the lake or the ocean. Wherever it might, that space of serenity, to simply be within it and to take in the beauty around you, that connects to yourself and your own beauty and peace within.
Taking time, and creating space for rest and for sleep. Even if it feels impossible to do, it's necessary and so supportive. This precious rejuvenation and renewal for our hearts, bodies and minds.
There are times where I've asked myself this question often. Not just once. Often many times during the day, to draw myself to this place of connection within myself - What can I do to support myself right now?
I encourage you to hold it as a question in your mind and heart to keep returning to. Throughout the day. Or in this phase or place of uncertainty or transition that you may find yourself journeying through, right now.
It might seem a simple question. And yet, the power in this question can shift something that speaks to us in a way we truly need. It can be a beautiul way to remind ourselves of self compassion in each present moment.
Whatever it is you might be feeling, right now. Whatever it is that's going on around you or within you, right now. Wherever you are and however you find yourself, right now.
You don't need to hold on so tightly. You don't need to be stoic or to be always so strong. You don't need to only support others around you. It's okay to let go a little, it's okay to step back, it's okay and safe to take ourselves to this connection and space within, where we can let it out and release all that we need to.
When we do, we find ease, a sense of peace, and a reminder of our own power and trust within.
Whenever I take myself to this space within, I connect with my heart, I listen to my intuition, and I find the trust I need to keep carrying on with grace and with love, and to keep moving forward. I hope this for you.
Gift yourself grace. And I leave you with these beautiful words I always love so much 'This too shall pass'.
